Jared Nielsen engages in the distribution of material, energy, and information flows. These projects take a polyphony of forms: as actions that operate outside the realm of quantification; as the expenditure of useless energy or the useless expenditure of energy; as experiments in and through media to investigate the folds in perception and processes of thinking; and as explorations of the immeasurable and essential aspect of the interacting components of assemblages. The work questions the role of autonomous subjectivity and finite representation through projects that are collaborative, open-ended and accumulate over time. Sources for these projects include but are not limited to horror and science fiction film, cognitive science, economics, the built environment, music, pedagogical structures, and garbage. The work is realized through orgiastic recycling, self-organizing educational forums, digital media and public interaction.
